How to Apply Essential Oil on Your Skin

There are various techniques of using essential oils on the skin. Note that many essential oils are dangerous and can’t directly be used on the skin when undiluted.

How to prepare an essential oil solution

You should always dilute your essential oils in a carrier compound such as water, nut oil or vegetable. The concentration should not be more than 5 percent. For instance, one spoon of water or nut oil will need about three drops of essential oil so that they all make a solution with a concentration of 3 percent. That is safe enough for the skin. If you want to massage your body or apply the oil to the whole body, you need a solution of 1 percent concentration. This means one teaspoon of water or oil will require one drop of essential oil. This level of concentration is very safe. For kids, the concentration should not be more than 0.25 percent.

The best carrier for you to choose

There are many carriers out there, but most of them are available in natural foods stores and supermarkets that sell body and natural baths products. Cold-pressed oils and organic ones are the most used products, and they include apricot kernel oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, grape seed and avocado oil. These oils have a mild smell. Also ensure that you store them inside the fridge always or in an essential oil carrying case and throw them away if they start to smell bad.

Essential oil is great for your skin and can help you in so many ways. However, applying the oil on your skin needs some skills, and it’s a technique that is easy to learn. The above tips will help you prepare and apply your own essential oils in a matter of minutes.
